Ugene Technology Learning Story

Every Thursday’s Year 7 & 8’s  go to Brandon Intermediate with Natone Park School to find and pursue a passion we are yet to find. At tech we learn about Art, Hard Materials, Sewing, Cooking and Music.


In Term 1, I was in Music. Every week we did a music quiz which helped us recognize different songs. We all worked as a group and helped each other by using teamwork.  


I was good at:
  • Listening to the teacher
  • Working in a team
  • Working with people who I am not used to
  • Staying on task
In Term 2 I was in Art. We were learning how to use clay to make different types of shapes/objects. We got to play around with clay and use different materials to mold the clay into different shapes. It was fun experimenting and playing around.


I was good at:
  • Working with the clay
  • Using different art materials
  • Following instructions

We were next in Hard Materials where we were learning how to make shields. We learnt how to keep ourselves safe around the equipment when we used different tools/equipment to assist us to this learning time.
I was good at:
  • Following instructions
  • Sharing equipment with others
  • Keeping myself and others safe with the tools around us
In Term 3 we were in Sewing. I would say sewing is not really my hobby but at least I got to try it. We all got an opportunity to create and design our own throw cushion.

I was good at:
  • Fishing which was difficult for me to remember how to use.
  • Helping others in my group
  • Learning new techniques quickly
  • Following instructions to help keep me and my classmates safe
  Now for the current group I am in at the moment which is Cooking. We have recently made Cow Zones, meatballs and pasta and french toast.

I was good at:
  • Listening to instructions
  • Helping others keeping safe with hot equipment
  • Knowing what to do (e.g) what equipment to use, what ingredients etc.
  • Being on task
The K.C’s I used during all of these activities that helped me the most is relating to others. It helped because, I got better at working in a group with people I don’t usually work with.
My next steps that I really needed is during sewing. I need to learn how to sew accurately and make the stitching look top notch.

Ugenes Athletic Story: Today I was exhausted, tired and sore. If you are still wondering what I am talking about, I am talking about 'Athletic Days’ My first activity was discus throw where I got bronze. I was good at cheering people on and using the right arm technique so I can throw the discus further. Something I liked was sprint's/long distances. At the end of the activity, I was sweating with tired legs. In sprints, I got silver and gold for long distances. I was good at not worrying if I was coming last I still persevered and kept on running. The activity I didn’t like was high jump I found it difficult to lift my leg and to jump high but the skill I used was to ignore any distractions happening and focusing on getting myself over the pole.
