Ugene's Cook Island Language Learning Story

Tatou katoatoa e tou kia orana tatou atu

So when we learn Cook Island Maori at Corinna School, we all go to a certain place at a certain time so if you were in Cook Island with Abby you will go at 1:50pm and if you are in Samoan with Sia you would go around 2:20pm and stay there for an hour and 30 minutes. It’s the same go for the  Cook Island students. We are so lucky to have people in our community who take their own time of the day to come teach us. So I would just like to thank Ti, Sia, Abby and  Malia for everything they do not just for their own kids but also the students of Corinna School. I love doing Cook Island Language because it give me an opportunity to learn more about my ancestors and my culture.

My Learning Story
I am good at always getting my Cook Island work done when Abby gives us work because when i get it done I can help my classmates get there work done too. We can learn something else and also we can also have fun.

I’ve got better at learning more about my Cook Island Language when we are at Cook Island class because I never used to know a lot about my Cook Island language.

I need to work on showing my classmates my work before I show Abby because my classmate don’t believe me when I'm finished. Why should I show them it's none of their business to be honest?

I feel proud that I am starting to learning more about my Cook Island language and now am feel proud there ever that I'm a Cook islander and that people respect Cook Island. Our Cook Island teacher always has work to do

Rylee’s Feedback
You are good at being respectful because I always see you staying focused when learning. You need to work on learning what the words mean because I can tell sometimes you get confused and mixed up.
